How to film a swimming race with a phone
Swimming stats are coming to Reelstat. This guide works today with any camera app, and your footage will be ready when we are.
Where to put the phone.
In the stands or on the pool deck, level with the middle of the pool.
How high.
High enough to see every lane.
Framing.
Landscape. All lanes, and both walls if possible.
Settings.
Do Not Disturb on. Screen brightness down to save battery. Plug in a power bank. Keep about 5 GB free. Close other apps.
During the game.
Do not move the tripod and do not zoom. If someone stands in front, ask them kindly to move.
Common mistakes.
- Filming in portrait. The playing area does not fit.
- Splash on the lens. Keep the phone out of the splash zone.
- Filming from the end. The lanes hide each other.
- Filming other swimmers without the meet's permission. Ask the meet organiser first.
After the game.
Stop recording and keep the video. Your footage will be ready when we are.
